Dormers for the Old Girl Part 1

After a long vacation and I use that word lightly, I am back.  We actually did go on a short vacation and saw some sights and had a wonderful time.  Mostly we have been busy with renovations.  We had built on to our house a few years back and had lost two windows from one of the bedrooms.  As a result, it was no longer a bedroom, it was an abyss of blah.

Our north slope roof still needed to be shingled so it was decided that we would build twin dormers, creating floorspace as well as a window for the bedroom. We set up scaffold and started the gruelling task of striping shingles.
Safety boards were put on the roof so we could continue stripping

The big step was cutting in to the roof....YIKES.....What the BLEEP are we doing.

Not so bad.  Now to cut out the rafters.

Well that's day one.  Tarp goes over the opening.
Hope you join me for part 2......coming soon!

  1. Crikey! You don't fool around and you make my small craft projects look silly. I remember when The Welding Man and I would tackle large projects (building a new deck the day before a family BBQ) Kudos to you for envisioning and going forward with this upgrade! I hope all goes well!

  2. Thanks Ann. Haha. Building a deck the day before a get together is pretty daring also! Hope you have followed along as we are almost done!
