Yummy "Spiced Canned Pears" Yummy

Yummy Pears.  One of my favorite fruits.

If only I had a tree and could grow the darn things, I would have canned enough for me and....well....  no, just enough for me.  But I don't have a pear tree; I have a supermarket and cash, so I stuffed a bag or two, and hurried home.

I quickly googled canned pears, saw a few dud recipes, and then I found this  ONE!!.  Plus I really liked the name of her blog and figured if she really was Straight From The Farm  she could be trusted with my pears.  Heck, shes a farm-girl!  I pretty much followed her recipe exactly. (except I put a wee little bit of the spices in the jars too!)

Spiced Canned Pears
1 bushel of firm, but ripe pears
2 C. sugar
6 C. water
2 cinnamon sticks
1/4 t. ground cinnamon
1 t. freshly grated nutmeg
2 whole star anise
14-16 quart jars
lids and rings
canning kettle
jar lifter
large ladle.

I  filled eleven 500 ml jars, with 1 1/2 produce bags of pears from the grocery store. YAY!!

Her blog is amazing with lots of pictures, the kind I like. So you could go there now and follow along, or you can just look at all my amazing pictures and try to stumble along!
Peel pears.

Remove cores.
Put in jars.

I swear that's not an ant!!

Make your syrup.

Wash and boil your snap lids.

Fill jars with syrup, secure snap lids and rings.

Water bath for 20 minutes.
Remove from water bath.

Admire!

And admire!
