Dormer Drywall Part Thirteen

A break from hearts and monsters for

 a quick peek at dormer #1.

A look back at "Our Dormer Adventure"

 As you can see from the picture above, there are no icicles hanging from the eaves.  If you would have seen this same picture a year ago, it would have looked something like a three year old's nose,

 suffering from a nasty cold.  

We went shopping yesterday and found some sweet curtains.

Looking forward to a speedy delivery of the ceiling tiles.
 One week has passed so maybe one more week and they will be at the post office!

The faux tin tiles will be glued right to the ceiling.

A layer of Styrofoam was used to cover the ceiling and all exterior walls which were built back in the caveman days. (pre-insulation)   This helped seal up drafts and cold that was entering into the 110 year old home through uninsulated surfaces.  Drywall was attached right over the Styrofoam.  This made for an unbelievably rigid wall!

This afternoon, a coat of paint.

  Next up, a new floor.

  She needs some work.... a lot of work!

Monster Spray/ Room Spray

   Ever been woken up from a dead sleep, to feel an unearthly chill clinging to your spine with glowing monster eyes peering at you from the darkness of your closet?  Then, without warning, a growling monster jumps from the shadows and chases you to your mommy's bed?

  Well it happened to me the other night so I thought I would whip up a batch of Monster Spray 

 Tried and tested with two thumbs up, by me and many children, all over the world!

  Homemade labels and dollar store stickers help dress up the containers!

H20 is a must no matter what recipe you use.
  I prefer distilled as there are no deposits to clog your pump..
You can just spray water from a bottle and try
 to trick those nasty critters
 but I find adding a scent works much better.  You can also
 add other ingredients to make your spray mix more refined!
 Recipes below.

 Sticker paper and Microsoft Word to create my labels.

The label gets covered in clear packing tape to keep it waterproof.

You can make an the adult version.

  We call it Room Spray. 

 It supposedly keeps crabby teenagers away!

Monster Spray Recipe #1

2 cups distilled water

30-35 drops of fragrance oil or essential oil

mix well and pour into a spray bottle. 

Shake well before each use!

Monster Spray Recipe #2

2 cups distilled water

30-35 drops fragrance oil or essential oil

30-35 drops polysorbate 80

Mix well and pour into spray bottle

The essential oil and polysorbate 80 should be of the same measure.

  You can use more or less of each, pending on how strong you want your spray.

I use this rating system to see if there is risk to humans,  animals, and the environment, when making any types of perfumes or soaps.

Monster Spray Recipe #3

1-3/4 cups distilled water

1/4 cup vodka

30-35 drops of fragrance oil or essential oil

Mix well and pour into spray bottle.

Toxicity rating for ethanol (vodka) found here.

The polysorbate 80,  ensures the water and oil mix.  It's called an emulsifier or surfactant.  The vodka also helps emulsify the oil and water.  These chemicals will keep your water from turning cloudy too, although I don't think the little ones would notice. 

  You may choose to keep your monster spray chemical free. 

 The choice is yours!

Good luck with those creepers!

  I finally got rid of mine with 12 drops cinnamon,

  8 drops of orange and 5 drops

 ylang ylang oil in my Monster Spray!!

  Took a whole bottle at Christmas but we are safe and everybody thinks I am a superhero and a great baker!

Scented Valentine Heart Garland

This was a fun project and I finally saw an end to those bloody hearts.

On a sad note, this will be the last visit from

 Cupid Dude, who's become so dear to my heart!

It was an easy garland to whip up.

  I added a drop of fragrance oil to each heart for that "Love Is In The Air" aroma! 

 This time I used sweat pea.

  Ribbon is fed through the hearts.
 Remember to put a dab of hot glue on the end and squish
 it up so that is easier to feed through the holes. 

Plastic rings were tied on each end for hanging the garland.

One of the garlands got a fancy battery operated dragonfly light set.

I used some beading wire to attach the lighting cord to the ribbon.

The second one didn't get a set of lights.

After trying to get a decent shot for my blog, I realize that I really need a mantel.

A Scented Valentine Wreath

You guessed it, another salt dough creation.

You can blame it on the Cupid Dude and two cups of flour!

This is what a double batch looks like.  You can find the recipe HERE...Don't double it!!!!
(Unless you want to make a lot of hearts.  Then double away my friend!)

A circle was traced from the base of a broken globe onto a piece of paper.   The globe was salvaged for this AMAZING project that I am going to make.  I haven't done it yet cause I am waiting for that AMAZING idea to knock me over the head......that was just over a year ago. 

The hearts were laid on the circle pattern and glued to each other at every point they overlap ensuring that none of the holes were blocked.  This will be for the ribbon to thread through.

The back of the wreath after the hearts were glued to one another.

My Dollar Store ribbon just keeps on giving, like a double batch of salt dough!  I put a dab of hot glue and quickly twisted it so that I could burn my fingers a wee bit and run it through the holes easier.

 Ribbon is threaded through all the holes with a burnt finger.

 Two long tails were left for the hanger.

I tied a few small hearts to the tails, but it still needed something else.

Maybe the beer bow A.K.A. barrette found its niche!

For an extra bit of fun, a drop of cinnamon oil was added to each heart.  Kinda reminds me of the little red cinnamon hearts that I am addicted to.  If you are on a diet, don't do this cuz you will be running for the candy dish every time you walk by your wreath.

Valentine Barrette or a Beer Bow

The Cupid Dude is back which means another episode of Salt Dough!

A barrette clip.

Dollar Store ribbon and some jewelry wire threaded on a needle will make the base for the barrette.

I just kept threading until it felt fairly full.

I twisted and tied the wire and then hot glued the ends of the ribbon together for a finished look.

A blob of hot glue helps secure the clip to the ribbon.

My new spider wanted to model the barrette, but she stole the shot.
She is one sexy Skullder!

I hot glued the Salt Dough heart, (RECIPE HERE)  to the front of the ribbon ball.
A big thanks to my special model!
This is gonna make the perfect bow for a "Bucket of Beer"
